Find your voice - entry level class for children in Reception and Year 1. Fun music & movement activities build confidence & nurture creativity.

Music Explorers make lots of exciting musical discoveries! In this class we love lightbulb moments as we learn how music works. We play lots of games that help us become confident singers, excellent listeners and good turn-takers. These activities help us work out key concepts, such as the difference between beat and rhythm, higher and lower notes and much more!

Our Music Passport helps us keep track of what we have learned: every time we make an exciting discovery, a new badge reminds us of the skill and the song or rhyme we discovered it with! It’s a great tool for sharing what we can do with family, friends and other music teachers. We crack open the treasure chest that is music notation! Just like words, music can be written down to be shared, and being able to read music is just as magical as delving into a good book. But the real magic is in the enjoyment of the music making - singing, moving together, playing our instruments and loving the sense of mastery we get as we learn!

Music Literacy

What is it, and why would you want it for your child?

Just as learning to read and write unlocks the riches of language, so musical literacy supercharges children’s musical learning. It goes way beyond a head knowledge of “music theory” - it’s understanding music holistically with our bodies, voices, minds and fingertips. For me, growing up playing music without this understanding was like reciting poetry in a foreign language. Learning the “language” of music adds a whole new dimension to the enjoyment and the mastery of music. Whether singing or playing instruments – being musically literate is like seeing in colour where before you’ve seen black and white. As well as helping children understand music, musical literacy also enables them to give shape to the music kicking around inside their heads, helping them unleash their creativity and communicate their own music
