🎶 When Preschool Music Classes Stop — How to Keep the Music Alive for Your Child

If your child has just started Reception, there’s a good chance their much-loved preschool music class has come to an end.
Parents in Fleet tell us they feel their children are suddenly in musical limbo — they’ve outgrown the toddler music sessions they adored, yet they’re still a bit little for piano lessons or other instruments like drums, guitar or violin.
And you’re absolutely right to feel that way. For most Reception-age children, formal instrumental lessons can be a bit too soon. Sitting still, focusing on one instrument, and developing all the fine motor skills needed takes time — and readiness.
But here’s the good news: that doesn’t mean the music has to stop! 🎵
🌟 Why the Reception Years Are the Best Time to Learn Music

Before the age of seven, children’s brains are incredibly receptive to musical learning — not through formal piano or violin lessons, but through movement, singing, and play.
This is the golden window where they can:
💃 Feel rhythm through dancing and movement
🎤 Develop their musical ear through singing and listening
🎲 Build a strong foundation for rhythm, pitch, and coordination — all through fun and games
In other words, they don’t need to sit at a piano to learn music. They need to experience it with their whole bodies.
🎼 The Bridge Between Preschool and Piano Lessons
(...or any other instrument!)

At Vivace Music School, we’ve created a special class that bridges the gap between early childhood music groups and later piano or instrumental lessons.
Our Music Explorers, Music Adventurers and Music Discoverers classes are designed especially for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children in Fleet, easily covering those Infant School Years.
Through singing games, moving to music, and playful listening activities, children learn to:
✨ Discover and develop their singing voices
🌈 Grow in confidence and expression
👂 Listen with intent and musical awareness
🎼 Understand how music works — from beat and rhythm to melody, form and notation
All of this happens in a joyful, social environment that nurtures curiosity and imagination — the perfect preparation for future piano or instrumental learning.
